The Art and Science of Bringing Pixar’s Imagined Worlds to Life

Hampshire College, Jan 31, 2018

Danielle Feinberg, Pixar’s Director of Photography for Lighting, uses math, science and code to bring wonder to the big screen. Go behind the scenes of Finding Nemo, Toy Story 3, Brave, WALL-E, Coco and more, to discover how Pixar interweaves art and science to create fantastical worlds where the things you imagine can become real.

Attended a great talk by Danielle Feinberg, of Pixar, at Hampshire College, where she was hosted by former colleague Chris Perry, who is now a faculty at Hampshire. Feinberg talked about many of the Pixar movies she was involved with, including the Oscar-nominated Coco. It was a very impressive presentation by Feinberg, not just for computer science geeks, but all audiences (although the geeks in the audience were pretty fired up!).
Danielle is a great speaker, educated at Harvard, and has been climbing the echelons at Pixar for close to 20 years. She's also been very active with promoting coding for women and girls, and has given talks at Grace Hopper and TED. She has a good presence on YouTube.
